Two items of keen interest to outdoorsmen still are being debated in the Colorado legislature. SB 24, the game-damage measure, has been beefed up to allow landowners who claim damages to charge up to $500 for hunting on their property. The previous damage limit had been $100. Another element of the bill would require the Colorado Division of Wildlife to issue kill permits for animals responsible for such damage. This measure is expected to be debated Friday in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The so-called Habitat Stamp bill has been laid over pending an amendment by Sen. Josh Penry that would remove $500,000 from the stamp fund, money that would be made available for purchase of water to enhance in-stream flows. Opponents argue the Penry addendum will remove the DOW’s discretion in determining which water projects would achieve the most benefit.
