Colorado Springs Police Department SWAT officers fired multiple rounds of tear gas into a Colorado Springs apartment this afternoon before flushing out two carjacking suspects hiding in an attic.
When officers tossed a cannister of tear gas into the attic of an apartment in the 1600 block of Lenmar Drive, two rounds from a shotgun were fired at them, but no one was hit and officers did not return the gun fire.
Jason McBrayer, 28, and Juanita Martinez, 31, both of Colorado Springs, both came out of the attic and were arrested, ending a five-hour standoff.
Besides charges related to a carjacking on April 9, the pair also now face charges of attempted murder on a peace officer, according to Colorado Springs police.
McBrayar had a warrant for an escape, and outstanding charges of third-degree assault, possession of a firearm by a previous offender and felony menacing.
