BANGKOK — Thai police say the leader of protests that shut down Bangkok airports last year was shot and wounded by two gunmen.

Sondhi Limthongkul, the founder of Thailand’s “yellow shirt” protest movement, was shot in the shoulder and grazed by another bullet near his eyebrow when two assailants in a pickup truck sprayed his vehicle with automatic-weapons fire early today, said police Maj. Gen. King Kwangvisetchaichai.

Meanwhile, ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra decried the violence that swept through the Thai capital earlier this week. “War will never end by war, it has to end by negotiation,” he said.
