Two separate snow slides rolled across Berthoud pass tonight, closing the pass.

Nobody was hurt in either incident.

The smaller of the two avalanches occurred on the Clear Creek side of the pass. It covered the road with two feet of snow and did touch a few vehicles and a snow plow, CDOT spokeswoman Stacey Stegman said.

The other slide covered the road on the Grand County side – called the “80” – with five to six feet of snow. No cars were involved and nobody was injured.

Berthoud Pass will remain closed until tomorrow when crews can clear the snow.

“Our crews are getting it cleared up and we will take a look at the avalanche path on the road and decide what to do from there,” CDOT spokeswoman Mindy Crane said Friday night. “It’s starting to get dark so we don’t know if we’ll be able to do any work tonight.”
