Stocks from developing economies have been among the biggest stars so far in 2009. But bonds issued by emerging-market nations? Not so much.

S&P says credit quality among developing economies has weakened markedly over the past six months. It downgraded credit ratings for 10 of 43 emerging-market nations over that period. To be sure, it says that most will likely be able to weather the recession due to strong reserves, including Brazil and China.
