Companies say hardware business is staying.
Oracle and Sun Microsystems are seeking to dampen concerns that Oracle may sell Sun’s hardware business as part of Oracle’s $7.4 billion acquisition.
In a filing last week to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the companies said in an unsigned statement that “Oracle plans to grow the Sun hardware business after the closing, protecting Sun customers’ investments and ensuring the long-term viability of Sun products.” Some analysts have speculated that Sun’s server and data-storage components aren’t a strategic fit for Oracle and that they may be put up for sale.
