DENVER—A Lakewood High School substitute teacher faces up to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
The Jefferson County district attorney’s office says 32-year-old Jon William McCarthy pleaded guilty Friday to one count of sexual assault of a child in a pattern of conduct, and three counts of stalking. All four counts are felonies.
Prosecutors say the relationship occurred between October 2006 and October 2007, when McCarthy was a security guard and student teacher at the school. He later became a substitute teacher and track coach.
McCarthy was arrested last May when a student teacher told her supervisor she had overheard students discussing the relationship.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 31.
