Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation after finding the body of woman this afternoon in an apartment in the 11400 block of W. Bowles Place.
Authorities plan to question a man who lived in an apartment where the body was found. The names of the woman and the man have not yet been released.
Officers responded to the apartment after the man’s uncle called the Sheriff’s Department reportedly concerned for the man’s well-being. Knocks at the apartment door went unanswered but officers heard movement inside, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. After gaining entry with a key from the apartment office, the body was found “lying just inside the doorway.” The man then appeared out of a back room.
According to the news release, the man asked officers for medical attention. Officers reported the man appeared to be “uninjured,” but he was still taken to a hospital by ambulance.
The man claims to be a friend of the victim, the release said.
