BOULDER, Colo.—The Boulder County coroner says head injuries claimed the life of a 20-year-old man who fell from his skateboard and hit the pavement.
Authorities say Carl Stillman Olson died Friday of injuries suffered when he lost control of his skateboard while riding a day earlier near 9th Street and Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder.
Police say Olson was not wearing a helmet.
A friend, 21-year-old Ryan Mayer of Boulder, says he was riding near Olson on Thursday and that Olson was going too fast. He said Olson tried to slow down when they saw a red light, but Olson’s board stopped when it caught an edge and threw him backward.
Olson’s head struck the pavement. He was taken to Boulder Community Hospital and later airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center, where he died.
