GOLDEN, Colo.—Energy Secretary Steven Chu is visiting the National Renewable Energy Laboratory outside Denver to announce that the lab’s wind-energy research will get millions of dollars in federal stimulus funds.

Chu will tour the lab with Gov. Bill Ritter Wednesday before making the funding announcement.

The exact amount NREL will get hasn’t been announced. Colorado Sen. Mark Udall and Rep. Ed Perlmutter, both Democrats, say they believe it will be significant.

President Barack Obama has emphasized renewable energy and energy efficiency as ways to improve the economy, protect the environment and increase national security by reducing reliance on foreign energy.

NREL, in Golden, is the nation’s primary laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
