The pregnant woman struck by a car while fleeing a bear in Colorado Springs says she first pretended the bear was a dogbecause it was cute — before she ran and began screaming.
Ashley Swendsen appeared with fiance Jesse Daly on NBC’s “Today” show Wednesday, telling co-host Meredith Vieira how she ran onto a nearby road and was struck by a car whose driver left the scene.
The 26-year-old said she had mixed feelings about Colorado Division of Wildlife officers euthanizing the bear after she identified it as the one that followed her. She said she might not have identified the animal if she’d known that’s what would happen.
