Meet your rolling Rampart Rams
The surprising No. 1 seed in the Class 5A baseball tournament finished the regular season 18-1 and went a perfect 8-0 in the Colorado Springs Metro League. Pitchers Robert Forest and Zane Watkins have 13 of the Rams’ 18 victories. Austin Kaiser (.565 batting average, 34 RBIs and 12 stolen bases) and Tony Schicktanz (.556 batting average) are just a few of the batters to keep an eye on when Rampart opens District 1 play Saturday against Monarch.
Cherry Creek, by virtue of its Tuesday victory over two-time champion Rocky Mountain, earned the No. 2 seed, and the Lobos are No. 3.
Class 4A’s top seeds are No. 1 Broomfield, No. 2 Mountain View, No. 3 Wheat Ridge and No. 4 Cheyenne Mountain.
Eaton is the only unbeaten team in the top three classifications, and the Reds will be the top seed in Class 3A. Holy Family is No. 2, followed by Middle Park and Manitou Springs.
