WAYNE, Neb.—Paul Combs has been named head men’s basketball coach at Wayne State College.
Combs, whose hiring was announced at a Thursday news conference, coached at Division III Wisconsin-Platteville the past six seasons. His Pioneers beat Division I Bradley this past season, achieved a No. 1 national ranking for the first time since 1999 and played in the national tournament.
Combs was 104-55 at Platteview, including 23-6 this past season.
He previously coached at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wis., for four seasons and was an assistant at Ripon College in Wisconsin for five years.
Combs replaces Rico Burkett, who was 111-138 in nine seasons at Division II Wayne.
