Landlords, take note. Green isn’t just for homeowners. Renters, too, want to be eco-friendly.
There is growing anecdotal evidence that renters consider green amenities in their decisions to lease or renew. But many landlords so far have been slow to offer them, and what renters can do themselves is limited.
An survey last month showed that 60 percent of renters said they specifically search for environmentally friendly apartments, and a quarter are willing to pay more for those amenities. Seventeen percent said they wouldn’t rent a non-green apartment.
The most sought-after items: on-site recycling programs and energy-efficient windows.
But more than half of those surveyed said their community doesn’t provide any environmentally friendly programs or amenities.
