An escapee from a Boulder community corrections program led Boulder Police on a brief car chase this afternoon that ended with him being pinned under his own vehicle.

Forest Gillard was hospitalized with undetermined injuries at Boulder Community after his red Toyota SUV rolled on top of him following an accident with another car at 28th Street and Iris Avenue. Passengers in the other vehicle were not injured in the accident, police said.

Police started chasing Gillard with lights and sirens after he made a “derogatory finger gesture” toward the officers and sped away at a “high rate of speed,” said a news release.

“When it became clear the suspect was going to drive erratically through traffic,” the officers turned off their emergency signals.

Seconds later, the release said, Gillard crashed his vehicle.

Before the incident, Gillard was wanted on two traffic-related warrants and one other warrant that lists him as an escapee from the corrections program.

The chase is still under investigation by the Boulder Police Department.
