With his five-hit, nine-inning performance Saturday, Jason Marquis won for the fourth time during daylight hours this season. Marquis is accustomed to being a sunshine boy. Last season with the Cubs, Marquis went 7-3 with a 4.38 ERA in 17 day games. “It’s lights out, it’s eye-opening,” manager Clint Hurdle said, though neither he nor Marquis could offer an explanation.
Helton’s beltin’.
Todd Helton went 2-for-5, raising his average to .320. For the fourth time in his career he’s posted five consecutive multihit games. The last time he did it was June 9-14, 2002.
Hip Hawpe.
Brad Hawpe hit a solo homer in the sixth, his third of the season. Of his 20 hits this season, 11 have gone for extra bases. Entering Saturday, his 1.005 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) led all National League right fielders.
