A woman who survived a head-on crash that killed two others is in fair condition after being taken to Swedish Medical Center on Saturday.

Betty J. Burwell, 47, of Salida was a passenger in a white 2008 Nissan Xterra that crossed the double yellow center line and hit a yellow 2007 Xterra driven by 16 year-old Kjersti Anderson of Bailey. Anderson and the 44-year-old Oregon man who was driving the second car died at the scene.

Burwell was taken to Swedish with serious injuries.

The accident happened around noon Saturday on U.S. 285 about 10 miles north of Fairplay.

The Oregon man hasn’t been identified pending notification of his relatives.

The crash is under investigation.
