MONTROSE, Colo.—A 14-year-old boy has been ordered to stand trial on a charge of helping another teen plan a knife attack on a Montrose High School student.
At a preliminary hearing Monday, Montrose Police Detective Mike Watson said the 14-year-old approved of the attack and told students he wanted to knife someone too.
He was charged as a juvenile.
Seventeen-year-old Mallory Haulman’s throat was slashed as entered school on Nov. 11. She suffered serious injuries but recovered.
Another 14-year-old was charged as an adult with cutting Haulman’s throat. Michael Yates pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted murder and faces seven years in a youth correction facility.
In exchange for Yates’ guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.
