Lance Armstrong talked recently with Gov. Bill Ritter about reviving a multiday cycling race in Colorado, Armstrong said on Twitter.

According to the governor’s spokesman Evan Dreyer, Armstrong presented Ritter with a proposal during a conversation Wednesday. Armstrong has a house in Aspen and has been training in Colorado.

“He has this idea and he’s working on it from his end. There is some possibility we could bring it back,” said Ritter, who is an avid cyclist.

Armstrong is in Italy for the Giro d’Italia. Wednesday on his Twitter page he posted: “Had a great conversation with Governor Ritter from Colorado. Working on something. Stay tuned.”

The Coors Classic was the last major road race in the state and ended in 1988.

Last year, there was an attempt at a race in the Vail Valley, but the Colorado Stage International Cycle Classic was canceled less than two months before its scheduled Aug. 22 start because of lack of sponsors.

Armstrong also posted that he has convinced Levi Leip-heimer to race in this year’s Leadville 100.
