Level 3 Communications said Colorado is one of five initial markets in which it will begin offering communications services to midsize businesses.

Until now, access to Level 3’s fiber-optic network has been sold primarily to wholesale customers such as television networks and large websites.

Broomfield-based Level 3 will launch the new strategy this year along the Front Range as well as in Nashville, Tenn., Seattle; Washington, D.C.; and upstate New York.

“We are taking our services to the next level to better serve our customers in each of these markets and provide a competitive alternative for midmarket businesses,” said Jeff Tench, president of Level 3’s business-markets group.
