A second University of Colorado law professor is leaving the school to join the Obama administration in Washington.

Nestor Davidson has accepted an appointment as principal deputy general counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Before coming to CU-Boulder, Davidson had previously served as special counsel to the secretary of HUD.

HUD works with communities across the country to promote home ownership, affordable rental housing, community development and fair housing.

In Boulder, in addition to teaching at the law school, Davidson served on the board of commissioners of the Boulder Housing Partners and as chairman of the Boulder County Advocates for Transitional Housing.

David Getches, dean of the CU law school, said in a statement that Davidson will be missed. But Getches added that Davidson will be an asset to the country and the Obama administration because of his HUD experience.

Last month, Philip Weiser, another CU-Boulder law professor, was named deputy assistant attorney general for international, policy and appellate matters in the U.S. Justice Department’s Antitrust Division.
