LONGMONT, Colo.—Trial is set to begin Oct. 13 in the case of a Longmont man accused of fatally shooting his friend on a Boulder street in January.
Forty-one-year-old Joseph Abeyta faces first-degree murder and other charges in the death of 47-year-old William Dwayne Andrews of Boulder. He pleaded not guilty Thursday in Boulder District Court.
Abeyta is accused of killing Andrews after the pair committed crimes in Longmont and Boulder on Jan. 23. Witnesses say Abeyta shot Andrews after the men argued over Abeyta’s treatment of two of Andrews’ friends.
The trial is expected to last eight days. A motions hearing in the case is scheduled for Sept. 8.
