LOUISVILLE, Colo.—Officials are working on a cleanup plan after asbestos was found at Louisville Middle School, prompting an evacuation.
The school was evacuated Friday afternoon when asbestos was discovered in an area of the building that was being renovated. Boulder Valley School District spokesman Briggs Gamblin says no students were in that part of the building Friday.
School officials are working with environmental consultants to locate the source of the asbestos and design a cleanup plan. After the cleanup is complete, the building must be tested again for asbestos, and the results must be approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Gamblin says the district hopes to reopen the school by Monday.
