The new Yankee Stadium has no shortage of star power on the field. But while his name may not be familiar, Steve Lazarus is as much a fixture at the ballpark. For 32 years Lazarus, 51, has worked and performed at Yankee Stadium, where he has hustled as much as Phil Rizzuto. Lazarus is a vendor, rushing ice cream to fans, tossing bags of peanuts across several rows and selling hot dogs that were actually hot. And along the way he also has passed out jokes: “Our oldest vendor is 83 and he got suspended: He tested positive for Maalox.” And he has parlayed his act to comedy clubs in the suburbs in New York and New Jersey.
