BOULDER — A Longmont man who had never entered the Bolder Boulder before Wednesday became the one-millionth registrant in the Memorial Day race when he stepped off a treadmill at Twenty Ninth Street mall.
Craig Aiken, 31, was at the race’s Twenty Ninth Street store to qualify for the race Wednesday. After running two miles in 15 minutes, 20 seconds on a treadmill to earn a spot in the “CC” wave, Aiken learned at about 1:15 p.m. that he was one millionth person to sign up to run in the race’s 30-year history.
He received a framed “1,000,000th” bib and a gear pack from race sponsor Adidas. He will also be recognized at the beginning of the May 25 race and when he crosses the finish line in Folsom Field.
“I have never ran it before, but I wanted to give running it one last shot,” Aiken said. “I thought maybe I’d go today and try to be the lucky one.”
