DENVER—A 57-year-old mountaineer rescued at Rocky Mountain National Park remains hospitalized and two backcountry skiers are being credited for saving his life.

Sterling Jordan is being treated at Medical Center of the Rockies after suffering numerous injuries. His condition was upgraded Thursday from serious to fair.

Jordan fell an estimated 50 feet down Ptarmigan Glacier on Monday and spent 24 hours in the backcountry before being discovered by two backcountry skiers. Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson said the skiers stayed with him, giving him clothes and food and water, until rangers reached him about three and a half hours later.

The skiers haven’t been identified but they plan to speak about what happened during a press conference Friday at the park.
