LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Fountain Valley’s Emily Hanna ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.72 Friday, winning her fourth-straight state championship in the event at the Class 2A state track and field meet.

The senior won decisively, beating second-place finisher Caitlyn Hubbard of Limon, who had a time of 15.49.

The 100-meter hurdles were one of more than two dozen boys and girls events held during the second day of the three-day competition at Jefferson County Stadium.

The Akron girls led all teams with 46 points after dominating the day.

The Rams, from the Lower Platte League in northeast Colorado, defended their state title in the 800-meter sprint medley relay early in the afternoon, and Akron added the 800-meter relay to its trophy case less than an hour later.

Erin Krause and Laura Measles helped Akron’s cause with a one-two finish in the pole vault. Krause made it 10 feet, while Measles vaulted 8 feet, 6 inches.

Limon was in second place with 36 1/2 points, Paonia had 32, Holyoke scored 25, and Wray was in fifth with 20 points heading into the final day of the meet.

In the boys’ competition, Wray won its second straight state championship in the 800-meter relay, helping the Eastern Plains school take the team lead with 38 points. Wiggins was in second place with 33 points, Sedgwick County posted 29 1/2 and Soroco (26) and Holyoke (25) finished the top five.

The Class 2A finals continue at 11:10 a.m. Saturday with the 100-meter dash.
