BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado-Boulder’s vice chancellor for research, Stein Sture, has been named interim provost.
The provost is the chief academic officer for the Boulder campus, overseeing all research, teaching and faculty operations.
His appointment was announced Friday by CU-Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano. DiStefano was provost until he became chancellor, the top campus official, on May 5.
A permanent provost is expected to be named during the 2009-10 academic year.
Sture previously served as chair of the civil, environmental and architectural engineering department. He also served as associate dean for research in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
Sture is also dean of the graduate school.
