Denver’s Espen Kofstad shot a second-round 1-under-par 71 to jump into the top five at the NCAA South Central golf regional tournament Friday at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

Kofstad, who was 28th after a first-round 75, is tied for fifth at 2-over 146. He’s four strokes behind the co-leaders, Connor McHenry of Wichita State and Oklahoma State’s Peter Uihlein at 142. Air Force’s Tom Whitney, who was tied for sixth after the first round, dropped to 22nd. He’s eight shots back at 150.

Denver is 11th in the team standings. Oklahoma State is the leader.

The top five teams advance to the NCAA Tournament. The final round is today.

CSU stands sixth in Northeast Regional.

Colorado State, led by Zahkai Brown in 13th place, is sixth in the team standings after two rounds at the NCAA Northeast Regional on the Galloway National Golf Course in New Jersey.

Brown shot a second-round even-par 71 and is at 147, five strokes behind leader John Hahn of Kent State. Tennessee’s Darren Renwick is second at 143, and the Volunteers lead the team standings.

Buffs settle into 12th place.

In the NCAA West Regional, Colorado is 12th in the team standings after two rounds at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif. The Buffs’ Pat Grady is 18th at 2-under 142. He’s eight strokes behind the leader, Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State. The Sun Devils lead the team scores.

Parker’s Polk wins match-play title.

Parker’s Robert Polk, 53, parred the final three holes to cap a late comeback in winning the Colorado Golf Association Senior Match Play Championship at The Ranch Country Club in Westminster, Polk earned a 1-up victory over Guy Mertz of Longmont, who had bogeys on No. 16 and 18, lipping out a 5-foot putt on the final hole.

CU, DU skiers win national awards.

Colorado’s Vegard Kjoelhamar won the men’s collegiate skier of the year award, and Denver’s Antje Maempel won the women’s award, given by .

Kjoelhamar was the individual national freestyle champion last season, and Maempel won both individual nordic titles. CU’s Maria Grevsgaard, who won the women’s award in 2008, was voted honorable mention.

CSU assistant goes to Cal Poly.

Mark Amaral, an assistant men’s basketball coach at Colorado State the past two seasons, will become associate head coach at Cal Poly, CSU coach Tim Miles said.

Provencher powers Mesa State.

Top-seeded Mesa State continued to roll through the NCAA Division II Central Regional baseball tournament at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, defeating New Mexico Highlands 15-13. Highlands, with two losses, was eliminated. Mike Provencher went 2-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Mavericks.

Mark Sayas went 3-for-5 with three RBIs to keep Colorado State-Pueblo alive after a 13-4 victory over Minnesota State, which was eliminated.
