AURORA — A man accused of fatally shooting a code-enforcement officer has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Harry Williams, 23, entered his plea Thursday in Adams County District Court. His trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 19.

Rodney Morales was shot Nov. 13 while conducting a routine inspection at an apartment complex. Morales died later at a hospital.

Police launched a massive search but didn’t find the shooter.

They identified Williams as a suspect the next day and tracked him to his sister’s northeast Denver home, where he surrendered after a standoff.
