As part of a month-long show of the works of more than 20 artists, including Ryan Rice’s painting “Peacock,” gallery 910Arts hosts a free open house 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Exceptional student stars
Brenna Sala of Denver and Charlie Barenberg of Parker each won $5,000 Exceptional Star of the Year Awards from the Anna and John J. Sie Foundation and the John Lynch Foundation. The awards go to public-school students who have overcome challenges associated with physical and/or developmental disabilities to participate in sports, academics and their community. Sala, an honor-roll student at South High School, has lettered in swimming for the past four years. She won a Special Olympics gold medal in competitive snowboarding and volunteers at the Denver Dumb Friends League. She plans to use the money toward tuition at Eastern New Mexico University, where she hopes to become a veterinary technician. Barenberg attends Chaparral High School, where he runs cross country, track, community races, Special Olympics and USA Track and Field. He hopes to run in the World Special Olympics in Athens in 2011 and plans to use his $5,000 award to further his education.

“Yoga Rocks the Park”
Colorado yoga instructors lead the first of a series of Sunday yoga events in Denver parks with an hour-long workshop followed by live music, a slack line and guided prayer 4 p.m. Sunday in Congress Park. Meet on the park’s west side, near Josephine Street and East Eighth Avenue at softball field No. 1, near the southwest corner of the park.
