In Summit County, residents annually bet on the hour that the Rotary Club’s clock, parked on the Dillon Reservoir ice since the last freeze-over, plunges into the thawing Dillon Reservoir. This year’s winner, Sharon Jones-Bird of Frisco, was just 1 minute and 1 second off the precise moment that the battery-powered clock splashed down, literally freezing that moment in time.

National Geographic Kids Hands-On Explorer Challenge winners Wyatt Jordan and Grace Kennedy

Colorado students Wyatt Jordan, 10, and Grace Kennedy, 12, are among 15 winners of a national essay and photo competition. Their reward: a two-week National Geographic assignment in Peru. Wyatt, who lives in Briggsdale, and Grace Kennedy, who lives in Castle Rock, leave for Peru on Saturday.
