DENVER—Marco Gonzales picked up his third win in a title game as Rocky Mountain won the Class 5A championship with a 10-1 victory over Mountain Vista Saturday.
Gonzales led his team to titles in 2007 and 2008 and did it again this year by striking out eight and allowing four hits in 6 1/3 innings. Byran Peters recorded the last two outs.
Rocky Mountain’s offense erupted for all 10 of its runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with Pierce Trumper (3-for-4, four RBI) and Chris Roglen (3-for-4, two RBI) doing most of the scoring.
Mountain Vista (20-6) got on the board in the top of the fourth on a homer by Tommy Clothier.
