LINCOLN, Neb.—Jake Mort hit two homers and had a career-high five RBIs to help Nebraska overcome a deficit and beat Baylor 9-4 on Sunday.
Erik Bird pitched a complete game for the Cornhuskers (25-28-1, 8-19 Big 12), allowing just one run in scoring position over his final five innings. Bird (3-2) fanned a career-high seven hitters and scattered eight hits in his first Big 12 start.
After giving up a run to Baylor (27-23, 10-16 Big 12) in the top of the first, Nebraska took advantage of a Bear error to plate three runs off of Shawn Tolleson (1-2).
But Baylor answered back with three runs of its own in the fourth, thanks to an RBI double from Don Lambert and a two-run double off of Raynor Campbell.
With the Huskers trailing 4-3, Mort hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give Nebraska the lead for good. He added an RBI double in the seventh and another two-run homer in the seventh.
Sunday’s win ended the season for Nebraska, which missed the Big 12 tournament for first time since 1998.
