Longtime business reporter and anchor Gregg Moss is leaving KUSA-Channel 9, his base for 12 years, not counting a couple of timeouts from the TV business in 2003 and 2006.
This time he’s leaving to pursue a career in international marketing.
Moss has been a key part of the station’s winning morning team. His last day on the air will be in late June.
“Everyone is replaceable,” he said Monday. “It’s hard, but you know in your heart when it’s time to go.”
Moss will become chief marketing and communications officer at Alem International Management, a marketing and event-planning company based in Louisville.
Moss has been “officially in remission for a little over a year now,” after suffering psoriatic arthritis and enduring chronic pain.
He’ll no longer have to go to work at 2 a.m., but, he said, “I will miss getting up in the morning. It’s a privilege to go into people’s bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms . . .” over the air.
“I tried to talk him out of it,” said Patti Dennis, vice president for news at KUSA. She will fill the position, she said, but it may take time.
In other KUSA news, Carrie McClure, a KUSA general-assignment reporter for four years, is leaving in late June to be a full-time mother.
Additionally, the position held by Amelia Earhart, who left the helicopter beat at KUSA/KOA for a similar job at KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, remains open. “She is tough to replace,” Dennis said, “with a unique skill set.”
