ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Federal investigators say wind and pilot error were to blame for the crash of a small plane at Centennial Airport nearly three months ago.

The single-engine plane was 8 to 10 feet off the ground Feb. 25 when it nose-dived into the runway at the airport in Englewood.

The pilot and a passenger escaped injury.

The National Transportation Safety Board’s probable cause report indicated that winds gusting up to 40 mph were a contributing factor, but said the pilot failed to maintain control of the aircraft while taxiing.

The pilot’s name wasn’t released.

The 42-year-old airport bills itself as the third busiest general aviation airport in the country.
