COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The El Paso County Coroner has ruled the shooting death of a 9-year-old Colorado Springs boy a homicide, raising the city’s homicide total for the year to 14.
Ulysses Gudino died Monday at his family’s home after his 13-year-old brother, Daniel, allegedly shot him and shot and stabbed their mother, 38-year-old Marina Gudino.
Daniel Gudino was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and attempted murder. He appeared in court Tuesday and was ordered held without bond.
His mother was among family members in the courtroom, her right arm in a sling.
Another hearing is scheduled for Friday, where prosecutors may announce whether they will charge Daniel Gudino as an adult.
Colorado Springs had recorded nine homicides by this time last year.
