It’s hard to believe Memorial Day weekend is finally here. Summer is back, and sundresses, sandals and lazy afternoons stretch out as far as the eye can see.
At least that’s how it feels right now. Come August, the season will have seemed far too short, so make the most of this long weekend.
In LoDo, the Lotus Clubs crew is going all out, as usual, to welcome summer in style. It’s a “Carte Blanche” weekend of white parties — meaning you’d better collect your best white threads and bust out the bleach if you want to blend in here.
The party moves from club to club each night, starting tonight at Suite Two Hundred (1427 Larimer St.). DJ Vice, a mash-up mixer from Las Vegas, will man the decks in the main room, and a hair and fashion show offers the chance to catch a glimpse of the new Marquis room.
Opened in late April, the Marquis is its own little VIP universe on the Larimer Street side of Suite Two Hundred. Doors were added to the former VIP area to create more separation from the rest of the club, and the decor is a little punchier, with hot-pink columns and, um, a giant, human-sized bird cage.
The waitresses wear the frilly frocks of 18th-century courtesans, and if it looks reminiscent of Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette,” it’s on purpose. Lotus Concepts vice president of marketing Paulina Szafranski says the colorful 2006 movie was an inspiration for the redecoration.
Doors open for tonight’s party at Suite Two Hundred and the Marquis at 9 p.m.
5 Degrees (1475 Lawrence St.) hosts Saturday’s party, a “denim couture” fashion show presented by Republic of Couture. Lotus resident DJ Maciek will provide the soundtrack — doors open early, at 6 p.m.
Sunday’s shebang is a CD release party at Monarck (1416 Market St.) for Denver’s DJ Nick. Since Monday’s a holiday, take advantage of the $3 drink specials, starting at 9 p.m. and running all night long.
The week winds down back at 5 Degrees with an official launch party for the lounge’s new OMG! Mondays. It’s “Oh, my God!” because of the deals: appetizers for $4, well drinks for $3, $2 for beer and wine and a changing $1 drink special. Since we’ve all got to go back to work Tuesday, the fun starts early at 4 p.m.
If there are enough classy, white clothes in your closet, the Lotus white parties will keep you busy. But since most of us aren’t P. Diddy, there will probably be room for a backyard barbecue somewhere this weekend. Let the summer games begin.
The party’s on the roof.
Another reason for celebration this weekend: The return of Climax Sundays at Vinyl (1082 Broadway).
The popular afternoon parties were on hiatus during winter, but they’re back in full force for the summer. Starting at 4 p.m. Sunday, the gay-friendly (really, everyone- friendly) dance party heats up two dance floors, featuring DJs Tatiana, Ken-E and Rockstar Aaron. There’s no cover, and Budweiser and Bud Light pitchers are only $5 from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunshine, a sweet view and a grill — who could ask for more?
Throwback.
Get ready to kick back with some old-school jams at the Mile High Soul Club’s May meeting on Tuesday.
Hosted by DJs Dogboy and Tyler Jacobson, the feel-good evening of classic soul and R&B goes down the last Tuesday of every month at Rockbar (3015 E. Colfax Ave.). This month, guest DJ Jason Heller, the man behind the sadly defunct Chit-Chat nights at Old Curtis Street Bar (2100 Curtis St.), will dust off his records and get back to business. There’s no cover — just show up and be cool.
