GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo.—Birds of a feather may stick together, but what’s beautiful for birds may mean mayhem for motorists.

A standstill in evening rush-hour traffic along Interstate 25 in the Denver area is hardly unusual, unless one considers the reason for some traffic trouble on Tuesday.

Not a flat tire, not a pileup, not a speed trap—instead, a gaggle of geese going for a stroll.

The feathered family chose the shoulder of I-25 in the Denver suburb of Greenwood Village for a walk on the wild side to destinations unknown. But fearing their possible fate, a couple of law enforcement officers and good Samaritans entered the picture to provide an escort.

With emergency lights flashing, authorities escorted the geese about 1 3/4 miles down I-25 to a drainage pond near a hotel.
