MONTROSE — JetAway Aviation says it has laid off 20 employees in recent weeks amid a squabble with Montrose County over an access permit to the local airport and fees.

County commissioners say the layoffs are the company’s fault for not following the rules.

JetAway Aviation chief executive Stephen Stuhmer blames the county, saying it put JetAway “out of business.”

County officials say they indefinitely suspended JetAway’s access to Montrose Regional Airport because the company didn’t have an access permit and had not paid the required $75,000 fee.
