Getting your player ready...

Becoming a fly-fishing celebrity at age 11 might seem quite an achievement unless one considers that Tyler Befus already made that mark years ago.

His most recent accomplishment, “A Kid’s Guide to Fly Tying” (Johnson Books, $16), actually is the Montrose resident’s second book, a follow- up to the earlier “A Kid’s Guide to Flyfishing.”

Taught by his father, Brad, a noted authority, Tyler is the real deal — an active casting competitor who already has patterns listed in the prestigious Umpqua Feather Merchants catalog.

With summer vacation coming soon, there’s no better way to introduce a kid to the sport.
