The Free Box lives
The Free Box, North Pine St. at Colorado St., Telluride
This box you cannot change.
Telluride’s celebrated Free Box, a local tradition spanning over 30 years, remains in spite of yupscale newcomers’ efforts to take it down. Volunteers cleared out the trash and posted anti-dumping rules. The policy remains “Leave something, take something,” from usable clothing to (once) a flat-screen TV.
Mountain dog duty
Stricter dog ordinances in Telluride, Aspen, Summit County and other mountain resort towns
Doody patrol.
New laws tighten the leash on dogs and their owners in the state’s high country. In Telluride, failure to clean up your dog’s poop means a $50 fine; in Aspen and Pitkin County, the fine is $100. Check local leash laws when you visit. Some towns allow voice control; others fine owners of unleashed dogs.
