VAIL, Colo.—Sales tax collections in Vail were down again in March.

The town released figures Thursday showing sales tax collections for the month were down nearly 25 percent from March 2008 to about $2.5 million.

The drop was attributed to the slumping national economy and the fact that Easter was in March last year and in April this year.

Lift tax collections were down 17 percent in March compared with a year earlier.

Through the first three months of the year, Vail sales tax collections were down about 18 percent from what was collected in the first three months of 2008.
