MIAMI — Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura was injured Sunday trying to turn a double play against the Marlins.

Iwamura was carted off the field, and sat in the clubhouse, his left leg wrapped and propped on a chair after the game.

He said he didn’t know the extent of the injury and was to fly to St. Petersburg, Fla., for further examination today.

• David Price, who helped Tampa Bay reach the World Series last year, will be promoted from Triple-A Durham and start at Cleveland today.

Price replaces Scott Kazmir, who went on the disabled list Friday with a quadriceps strain.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft, Price made his major-league debut last September and earned his first big-league win and save in the American League Championship Series against Boston.

Hochevar sent to minors

ST. LOUIS — The Royals sent pitcher Luke Hochevar to Triple-A and put pitcher Robinson Tejada and infielder Mike Aviles on the 15-day disabled list. Hochevar, the overall No. 1 pick of the 2006 draft out of Fowler High School, allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings in Saturday’s 5-0 loss to St. Louis. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA in three starts.

Footnotes.

The Cardinals activated Rick Ankiel from the 15-day DL, reversing course from a day earlier because the outfielder had a strong workout.

Also, infielder Tyler Greene was optioned to Triple-A Memphis.

• Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips plans on trying to play with a hairline fracture of his right thumb.

Also, Reds first baseman Joey Votto was scratched from the lineup Sunday because of dizziness, a condition that cost him 10 starts this month, and pitcher Homer Bailey was optioned to Triple-A Louisville.

• Red Sox desingated hitter David Ortiz, who went 0-for-5 and left eight runners on base against the Mets and is hitting .195, might be dropped from third in the batting order.
