INDIANAPOLIS — Helio Castroneves already has plans for his record Indianapolis 500 winnings.
The Brazilian driver, acquitted less than two months ago of charges that he plotted to evade some $2.3 million in taxes, won his third Indy 500 on Sunday and received a record prize of $3,048,005 at the victory dinner Monday night.
He joked to the banquet audience that he won’t be able to keep all of the money, though.
He added: “You guys know what I’m talking about. It’s not mine. But, anyway, it’s definitely going to help to pay my attorneys, no question about it.”
Also, Canadian driver Alex Tagliani, who drove from 33rd to 11th, was selected rookie of the year.
