A FUN(GI) EXPLANATION
Magic ‘shrooms explored
All this wet weather in the high country promises another epic season of culinary mushroom hunting. And while that’s the only mycological activity we’re willing to endorse, we’re intrigued by “Mushroom Magic: A Visionary Field Guide,” an illustrated tribute to psychoactive fungi by Arik Roper. Roper’s exceptional illustrations are accompanied by essays explaining the role of each family of ‘shroom in shamanic tradition worldwide. $19.95, Abrams, New York
PERRY’S TERRA COTTA
Pot people — and dogs
Oh that Max Perry and his big mouth. When he bragged he could build a better pot person from terra cotta planters, his wife egged him on. Now they sell Perry’s Pot People, patented and suitable for posing and planting, from their son Bill’s spread near Windsor. The cast characters includes two dogs, Bulova and Timex, “they’re watch dogs,” Perry says with a laugh. Perry’s Pot People, 29918 County Road 17, 2 miles north of U.S. 34 near Windsor. 970-690-5459
