Whitney Wade of Glasgow, Ky., carded four birdies — two on each nine — for a second round-low 69 and a share of the lead at the Colorado Women’s Open on Thursday at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.
Wade, at 3-under-par 141, is tied with amateur Alison Whitaker, a Duke University junior, in leading the field of 86 competitors. Whitaker moved up from third place after Wednesday’s opening round.
Tucson’s Sara Brown, the first-round leader, shot a 2-over 74 to drop one stroke back at 142. Brown is tied with Kendall Dye of Edmond, Okla.
Greeley’s Kelly Schaub, a former University of Denver standout, is three strokes back at even-par 144. Denver amateur Becca Huffer, a former two-time Colorado prep champ and a freshman on the Notre Dame team, is at 146. She was the runner-up last year.
Two-time defending champ Walailak Satarak of Thailand, at 12-over 156, missed the second-round cut.
Today’s final round gets underway at 7 a.m. on the 6,325-yard course, with a $55,000 purse at stake.
