BOULDER, Colo.—The Boulder County coroner has confirmed that a former police officer shot and killed his wife and son before turning the gun on himself.
Coroner Thomas Faure (fohr) says 63-year-old Philip F. DiLeo (duh-LAY’-oh) shot his 63-year-old wife, Elizabeth Schwarzenbach-DiLeo, several times in the head and chest, and killed his 23-year-old son, Philip Christopher DiLeo, with a gunshot to the head.
Philip DiLeo then shot himself in the head. The deaths were ruled a double homicide-suicide.
A housekeeper found the bodies Tuesday. Police believe the shootings occurred on Monday.
Authorities say Philip DiLeo was a Boulder police officer on two occasions, in 1972 and 1975. He was fired once, reinstated, then left the department on his own.
