BOULDER, Colo.—University of Colorado head basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik announced that sophomore Toby Veal will be leaving the program to spend more time with his newborn daughter.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward played in 18 games as a true freshman last season, averaging 1.8 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

Veal played high school basketball at Johnson High in Savannah, Ga., and signed with the Buffaloes in November 2007.

Bzdelik said Veal decided to return closer to home so he can be with his newborn daughter on a regular basis.

Colorado will grant Veal a release to sign with another school.
