GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Grand Junction teen accused of stealing more than $300 from a man at knifepoint has lost his bid to have his bail reduced.
A judge on Thursday denied a request from 19-year-old Derek Preston Paiz to reduce his bail to $10,000 from $50,000.
Police say Paiz robbed a man of $310 in cash shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday at Melrose Park.
The alleged victim followed Paiz in his vehicle and relayed the suspect’s vehicle information and license plate number to police. Officers arrested Paiz about an hour later.
Cpl. Richard Roquemore says police were able to capture Paiz so quickly partly because they had the plate number.
Paiz is being held on suspicion of aggravated robbery and theft.
